Memories by Bary Jones

I believe my favorite memories are about the participants. As I read through the individual names in the letter of those contacted, etc., each name brought back a pleasant, distinct memory and of course, a picture of an early 20’s or late teen face. I refuse entertain the thought that anyone else can have an old weather beaten mug like mine confronting them in the mirror. I think it is amazing how well we all got along, especially given the often cramped quarters we shared. I can’t remember any major fights (or if there were some, somebody please fill me in privately). I remember when only a few students were able to attend the dinner in the Bedouin tents and thinking how well those not able to attend were taking it. Personally I was mad as heck, but kept it to myself and only complained to a few dozen others. I’m all for unity. I do remember the Fairbanks boys engaging in a little midnight marauding. Hey, no harm no foul! It was amazing how the various romances developed, especially since we were not allowed to be alone with a member of the opposite sex.

I appreciated how Bro. Berrett made sure we didn’t miss anything and realze now how lucky we were to have a tour director that got us into and took us to places that the normal tourist would have no chance of experiencing. I can remember Brother Meservy being in absolute ecstasy in the Baghdad museum (whether he was in the body, or out of the body, I could not tell). It was a marvelous trip that has provided spiritual strength throughout my life. Thanks to the leaders and to all of you.
